OVERVIEW OF EDUCATIONAL SERVICES

The Work of LMLI—What We Do

  1. We develop principals to become instructional leaders by training them to use our proven observation tools such as the BBC (the Blackboard Configuration) and a variety of tools for supervising and monitoring instruction
  2. We train principals to use what they have observed in order to develop internal, focused staff development
  3. We train principals, teachers, and mentors to write Aims that reflect one of the three major thrusts listed below which we feel are crucial for pushing student achievement and increasing standardized test scores. Therefore, every Aim must address:
    • Diagnosed student needs as determined by frequent internal tests and analysis of standardized test data, or
    • Test concepts and/or questions that appear frequently on standardized tests, or
    • State standards of learning

The Work of LMLI—How We Do It

  1. We conduct site visits at which time we:
    1. Observe Instruction
    2. Meet with the principal, leadership action team, and mentors to discuss our observations
    3. Conduct full staff workshops at the end of the day of observation
  2. We train and work with school mentors. (Please note—we are quite pleased that your model includes mentors and other staff developers who will be trained to follow-through in the times when the consultants are not there. We achieved remarkable success with schools connected with the Massachusetts Charter School Resource Center at the Pioneer Institute because they also used mentors who continued the work in our absence.)
  3. We conduct full day and after school workshops on the use of LMLI tools, such as:
    1. The BBC—the Blackboard Configuration, a tool for structuring lessons and improving teacher performance
    2. The TTT—Test Taking Techniques for insuring students’ success on standardized examinations
    3. Observation Forms for formal and informal observation of teachers and for focused post-observation staff development
    4. Building Level Action Plan (BLAP) for strategic planning of school-wide or department-wide or grade-wide improvement
  4. We address site specific needs as determined by the consultants, the school leaders, and the mentors
  5. We consult with the superintendent and other central office personnel in order to respond to their particular concerns
  6. We do telephone consultations
  7. We provide a free LMLI video to the board and to each participating principal.

How We Evaluate Our Work
We evaluate our work through collecting:

  1. Evidence of successful use of LMLI tools collected by  LMLI  consultants during school visits
  2. Surveys completed by principals and their team members
  3. Scores on standardized tests
